Tracking events
The Tracking events endpoints show how recipients engage with your Transactional send and Agent Account messages: every open and link click on messages sent with message tracking turned on.
Use them to:
- See when a message was opened and which links were clicked.
- Compare open and click rates across date ranges, sending domains, and Agent Accounts.
- Measure how a campaign performed by filtering on its tracking label.
For real-time events, use webhooks. These endpoints are for reviewing patterns and trends over time, and for checking engagement on individual messages after they're sent. They aren't for following each message as it happens. Avoid polling them for new events. The opened and link_clicked events are the same ones that the message.opened and message.link_clicked notifications report. Subscribe to those to act on each open or click. See Use webhooks for real-time events.
Opens are a signal, not proof that someone read the message: some mail clients and privacy features load images automatically. Use open rates to follow trends. Events are kept for 90 days, and metrics cover up to a year.
For examples, see Monitor delivery and engagement.
