[2024-12-05] New in Nylas - December 2024
Welcome, friends, to our monthly episode of New in Nylas! 👋 It's officially the holiday season. While we're getting our decorations set up and our puffy coats ready, we're also pushing out some exciting updates for Nylas. Before we jump into it...
Did you know we have RSS feeds?
Point your RSS reader at us to subscribe to our SDK changelogs, our product Release notes, or both.
✨ As a friendly reminder, Nylas maintains compatibility within major versions. This means if you’re on Nylas v3, you don’t need to do anything to use the features we’re talking about here. (If you’re still using v2, we can’t wait to show you our latest and greatest! Check out the Upgrade guide.)
Nylas v2 deprecation news
Nylas v3 is our faster, more reliable, easier to use new platform, and we can’t wait to show you what you’re missing. To help us focus, Nylas is only making critical updates to Nylas v2 at this time.
The official deprecation date for Nylas v2 is December 31, 2024. No need to worry, though — we know the holidays are busy, so to help you through, we're keeping v2 running as usual until January 20, 2025. If you need to extend your migration timeline, contact Nylas Support.
If you haven’t already, check out the Nylas v2 to v3 Upgrade guide for instructions on how to get started building your project on v3, and the App Migration guide, the Migration API references, and our detailed instructions on migrating the many types of Microsoft accounts out there.
Personalize your migration process with Migration Station
We also built Migration Station, a customized upgrade and data migration guide built for you based on what Nylas features you use. Fill out the form and build a guide, and save the URL to share or to come back to later. We'd love your feedback on it!
SDK support for Nylas Scheduler
For those of you who use both Nylas Scheduler and one of our SDKs, we have some exciting news! The Node.js and Ruby SDKs now support the Scheduler API. Support for the Python and Kotlin/Java SDKs is coming soon.
Support for metadata in Nylas Scheduler
Scheduler now supports metadata fields (type: metadata
). You can add metadata fields to a new Configuration object, and use them to store custom information about bookings (for example, you can include campaign tags or keywords to track a set of bookings).
Webhook notifications for Scheduler now include your custom metadata fields, but they're not included in email notifications or booking forms.
New conferencing provider options
We've added conferencing support for three new providers: Teams for Business, Skype for Consumer, and Skype for Business. Now, you can include conferencing details for these providers natively, and Nylas can automatically create conferencing details for them when you create an event.
Nylas API improvements and bug fixes
- During migration from v2 to v3, Nylas now returns mutable IDs for EWS objects when it can't fetch their immutable IDs. See EWS mutable and immutable IDs.
- If Nylas can't translate a Microsoft object's mutable ID to an immutable ID when migrating to v3, the Migration API now returns the Graph error code in the object's
v3_provider_id
field. See Error when translating Graph IDs. - You can now use the
clone_exchange
query parameter in a Migrate v2 Account to v3 Grant request to create placeholder grants for Microsoft account types that Nylas can't fully migrate. Users can authenticate to these grants later. - You can now use the
allow_invalid_grant_creation
query parameter in Migrate v2 Account to v3 Grant and Batch Clone v2 Accounts to v3 Grants requests to create placeholder grants for all providers except Microsoft. Users can authenticate to these grants later.
Nylas SDK changelogs
Our intrepid team of developers is always working to improve Nylas, and that includes the SDKs that we maintain. We had a few updates to the SDKs throughout the month:
New and updated docs
We’re always working to make our docs better! This month, we’re pointing the spotlight at these pages:
- Administration API reference: Manage Grants
- Migrate Microsoft users from v2.x to v3
- Send email messages
- Using Nylas ExtractAI
Latest Nylas Tech blogs
Our Developer Advocates are hard at work bringing you cool demos built on Nylas v3. This month, they discussed how to send emails using an API.
That's all for now
As always, we appreciate you joining us for our release. If you want to keep an eye on what's coming to Nylas next, you can check our public roadmap.
Your feedback and suggestions about the Nylas platform are always welcome. If you have any comments or suggestions on the documentation, you can also drop us a line.
Until next time, have a safe, warm, and happy holiday season! ☃️
