Nylas agent skills are instructions your AI coding agent loads when it works with Nylas, so it uses the right endpoints, fields, and patterns without you pasting docs into the chat. They work with Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and 40+ other agents. There were 2 skills, nylas-api for building integrations and nylas-cli for the terminal. This release adds a third, for email templates and workflows, and updates nylas-api. Install the skills in one command.
-
nylas-email-templatesagent skill. A new skill in nylas/skills teaches Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, and 40+ other AI coding agents to build Nylas email automations end to end. It covers:- Choosing: when to use a workflow and when to use the Send API
- Writing: strict-mode Handlebars templates that don’t fail on missing fields, dates in the reader’s timezone and language, and email-safe HTML
- Testing and deploying: render-testing with
POST /v3/templates/render, creating templates and workflows, and sending stored templates - Debugging: workflows that don’t send
Install it with
npx skills add nylas/skills --skill nylas-email-templates. -
Example email templates. nylas/workflow-email-templates has 20 example templates. Every template is render-tested in strict mode before it’s committed, and the repo is MIT-licensed, so you can remix any of them into your own product.
- Workflow templates: Scheduler booking messages in 9 languages, event confirmations, recording notices, account welcome and reconnect messages, and Notetaker notifications.
- Send API templates: meeting summaries and job reports.
- In each trigger folder: a sample payload, screenshots, and notes on the fields that trigger’s payload carries.
Changed
Section titled “Changed”nylas-apiskill: Agent Account support. The skill now lists Scheduler (on theprimarycalendar), metadata, full-text search withsearch_query_native, and templates and workflows as supported for Agent Account grants. Before, it listed them as unsupported. Smart Compose, Notetaker, and contact groups are still unsupported.
Install the Nylas skills
Section titled “Install the Nylas skills”Skills give your coding agent Nylas-specific instructions it loads when a task needs them. Install all 3 at once, or only the ones you need:

Which skill to use
Section titled “Which skill to use”| Skill | Use it for | Example request |
|---|---|---|
nylas-api | Building an integration with the Nylas APIs and SDKs: authentication, email, calendar, contacts, webhooks, Scheduler, Notetaker, Agent Accounts | ”Add Microsoft sign-in and list the user’s unread email in my Node.js app” |
nylas-cli | Working from the terminal with the Nylas CLI | ”Use the Nylas CLI to find a free 30-minute slot with my team tomorrow” |
nylas-email-templates | Writing email templates, setting up workflows, sending with stored templates, or debugging a workflow that didn’t send | ”Write a branded booking confirmation in English and Spanish, render-test it, and create the workflow” |
The skills work together: an agent building a Scheduler integration uses nylas-api for the configuration and nylas-email-templates for its confirmation messages.
Build a template with your agent
Section titled “Build a template with your agent”After you install nylas-email-templates, ask your agent in plain language. For example:
- “Replace the Scheduler confirmation email with our own branded template, and turn off Nylas’s built-in email.”
- “Email users when their account expires, sent from
[email protected].” - “Send a meeting summary through the Send API when Notetaker finishes.”
- “My
booking.reminderworkflow isn’t sending. Find out why.”
The skill has the agent render-test each template against a realistic payload before it creates anything, and test the workflow on a single test grant before turning it on for every user. To start from a working example instead of a blank file, point your agent at the matching folder in nylas/workflow-email-templates.
See Templates and workflows and Why isn’t my workflow sending email? for the underlying behavior.
